A punch list is a document which is made at the latter stage of construction project, and that lists the work that is required to be undertaken or rectified--such as repairs of broken windows or alignment of doors. It is created when the owner, architect or general contractor goes on a site walk double check. It is a requirement that all the items listed have to be cleared before the contractor is paid out the money. This guarantees that the accomplishments of the project are in line with the specifications and design objectives of the contract. It may be called a snag list or a deficiency list. The term was borrowed back in the old discipline of punching holes to the right of the completed items on a printed list.
